Ten years ago, during a bloody African coup, a stray bullet from Black Ops commando Deke Bronson left up-and-coming journalist Lexie Murroughs paralyzed. Deke is grateful that she has no recollection of his part in the incident that left her physically injured, and Deke emotionally scarred. He's left the military and joined Dundee Private Security and Investigation in an effortt to put the past behind him - but he's never been able to forgive himself. When Lexie, now head of an international charity, begins receiving terrifying threats from the son of a dictator killed during that long-ago operation, it's Deke who's assigned to keep her safe. Maybe it's fate's way of giving him another chance. But falling for Lexie isn't part of Deke's mission. Nor is Lexie expecting to be so drawn to the brooding, somber warrior who watches over her.
